70 Generations

From the fall of Jerusalem in 70 CE to today is about 1,956 years. A generation, from a parent to their child, is about 28 years. So about seventy generations of parents and children connect Judea to you.

How we counted

1,956 years ÷ 28 years per generation ≈ 70. It is an estimate: 25-year generations would make it about 78, 30-year ones about 65. One of our own family lines, traced in the records, averages about 30 years. Back to Abraham is about 136 generations.

But everyone asks how it all started. So the journey begins earlier, with Abraham walking from Ur to Canaan, about 3,800 years ago. That part is the story the Torah tells. History, archaeology and DNA take over later, and the map always shows which is which.
